A Great Putting Drill

Lee Westwood Putting Can Improve

Lee Westwood must feel so frustrated with his lack of consistency in his putting at the Masters last week, he really needs to change direction to spin this around so he can have a great chance of adding Majors to his belt!!

I believe that under pressure and when he presses to hard to make putts, he gets out of his natural rhythm and tempo, his head moves around too much and then his stroke does not arc correctly. Lee has more or less always used a toe heavy putter which lends itself to an arcing stroke with face rotation throughout the entire stroke. This leads to rotating the shoulders and forearms correctly, when Lee putts not so well he tends to rock his shoulders and his forearms do not rotate correctly, which leads to poor face rotation.

With a little bit of guidance Lee can quite easily turn this part of his game around, he needs to get back to basics and stop looking for a needle in a haystack or that “magic thought” .

If Lee wants to come and see me then I would be more than happy to help him.

Improve Your Putting This Month with some good Putting Tips and Drills

Putting is most probably one of the least practised departments of a typical amateur golfer, they would much rather be seen on a range belting drivers as far as they can!! Although this is great for a quick ego boost, it is most certainly not going to reduce there scores and handicap very fast.

I know you will all say to me “practising putting is boring” and I would most probably agree to some extent, but if you gave yourself some fun challenges in your practise rituals then you would most definitely spend more time on the practise green.

Here is a good drill to kick off with for those short knee knocking putts Putting Drill
I will be adding more video putting tips on putting drills as we move on into the spring, so keep a look out on the website and my youtube channel.

Remember 53% of a round of golf is played with a putter in your hands, so if you would like some help in improving your putting then please have a look at my Peak Performance Putting Programme Here and lets start working on your putting.

I have many great teaching aids to help you, from green reading to working on the tempo of your stroke and also I use the Tomi putt video analysis to help you understand your putting stroke.

The Luke Donald’s of this world spend at least 50% of there practise time on the putting green as they know “you drive for show and putt for dough”

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Rosie Hockey for winning the Ladies Club Championship at Dale Hill on Monday. Also Congratulations to Yoko Nitta – Martin for winning the best overall net score.

Both Rosie and Yoko have worked extremely hard on their games this year with me, all the work is paying off so a big well done.

BE POSITIVE ON SHORT PUTTS

A tee peg practice drill to help you hole more of those pressure putts

There’s an old adage that says, “You drive for show and putt for dough”. We all get more target focussed when faced with putts we feel that we should hole and therefore feel more pressure. The hole some how looks smaller and we feel uncomfortable when standing over the ball, this leads to tense hands, forearms and shoulders all of which has a profound effect on how we swing the putter. So here is a practice putting drill to help you feel more confident over short putts.

  • Find a hole that gives you a nice straight flat putt.
  • Push a tee peg into the back of the cup and focus on that as this will make the hole seem a lot bigger
  • Draw a line on your ball to help you line the putt up, directly at the tee peg.
  • This will really help in taking the technical thoughts out of your stroke and you will feel that you swing the putter head more freely.
  • Feel how soft your hands and your elbows are as you swing the putter, rolling the ball straight towards the tee peg and into the hole.

Until next time I wish you all the golfing success
