Golf Lessons Sussex – Westwood told off by Mum

Lee Westwood must have been shocked when his mum told him off for swearing during the recent Qatar Masters last week.

She heard him swearing after his tee shot had ended 15ft from the pin, his closing 69 was only good enough for a joint 12th place. The winner was Scotland’s Paul Lawrie who is having a tremendous season so far, and back into the Top 50.

Lee’s mum rang him after the round and said “you might want to apologise” Westwood did not think that being so far down the leaderboard that he would not be on TV.

He later went onto Twitter and apologised again writing ”Sorry about swearing on the 16th tee. Came off like a rocket and thought it was going further! Wash my mouth out! Perils of live tv!”

I suppose your never to old to be told off by Mum!!

Improve Your Putting This Month with some good Putting Tips and Drills

Putting is most probably one of the least practised departments of a typical amateur golfer, they would much rather be seen on a range belting drivers as far as they can!! Although this is great for a quick ego boost, it is most certainly not going to reduce there scores and handicap very fast.

I know you will all say to me “practising putting is boring” and I would most probably agree to some extent, but if you gave yourself some fun challenges in your practise rituals then you would most definitely spend more time on the practise green.

Here is a good drill to kick off with for those short knee knocking putts Putting Drill
I will be adding more video putting tips on putting drills as we move on into the spring, so keep a look out on the website and my youtube channel.

Remember 53% of a round of golf is played with a putter in your hands, so if you would like some help in improving your putting then please have a look at my Peak Performance Putting Programme Here and lets start working on your putting.

I have many great teaching aids to help you, from green reading to working on the tempo of your stroke and also I use the Tomi putt video analysis to help you understand your putting stroke.

The Luke Donald’s of this world spend at least 50% of there practise time on the putting green as they know “you drive for show and putt for dough”

Richard Hannam

Well done to MWGA Student Richard Hannam on winning the Weekend Stableford with 43 points this weekend at Dale Hill.

HIGHER TEMPERATURES BUT LOWER SCORES
With temperatures soaring into the high teens and the leaves only reluctantly falling from the trees, it’s hard to be thinking of Christmas and what present to buy your husband/wife, son/daughter and playing partner. And so I won’t even mention the fact that Lesson Vouchers make wonderfully welcome gifts for the man and woman who has everything but needs a little help with their golf swing. All the details about how you can buy them online at http://markwoodgolfacademy.co.uk/lessons/vouchers-gifts/ or by emailing me at [email protected] or telephoning on             07796 271661      .

WISE ADVICE
Because the grass has just kept growing and growing so late in the year, it’s possible that you’ve spent a lot more than you budgeted for on extra petrol for the lawnmower. Don’t worry as I can offer you a couple of tips that are both hotter than the weather and absolutely free. The first is how to hole out those Dennis Wise’s – in other words, those nasty looking five-footers. I (almost) guarantee you’ll never miss another one if you follow this Youtube link www.youtube.com/markwoodgolfacademy. And the other absolutely free tip gives away the secret of how to hit long shots out of fairway bunkers. If you still can’t manage it after studying my advice at www.youtube.com/markwoodgolfacademy#p/a/u/2/f0a_eKEnNl0 don’t panic, as a future tip will show you how to steer clear of fairway bunkers! In case you’re interested, the last I heard of Dennis Wise he was managing Chalfont St Peter.

QUOTE UNQUOTE
“Golf is a game the aim of which is to hit a very small ball into a ridiculously small hole with weapons singularly ill-designed for the purpose.” – Winston Churchill

DIM
At the beginning of this month, two not terribly bright golfers teed off on the second hole of the Old Course on a particularly foggy morning. Both hit decent shots and proceeded to the green. One of the balls was about six feet from the cup while the other was in the hole. Both were playing a TopFlite 2 and couldn’t determine who had had a hole in one. And so they came to me for help. After congratulating both on their fine shots, I asked, “Who was playing the orange ball?”

Until next time good golfing!!
